Jailbreak

Jailbreak is a Scout and Explorer event organised by Saffron Walden District Scouts.

Participants need navigation, strategy and survival skills.

Can you avoid the catchers for 24 hours and reach the destination?

Jailbreak 2026 will take place on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September.

If you’d like to ask us questions, register interest or give us feedback then e-mail us at [email protected]

Jailbreak 2026 Starting Point.

All participants are expected to have signed in at the starting point by 10:30am. Please ensure that your WHOLE TEAM has arrived before approaching the sign-in desk together. Then find a space to sit as a team, to listen to the briefing and to do your planning.

ALL Teams will be starting from Saffron Walden Museum Grounds.

The postcode is CB10 1BN.

As we have trackers to fit everyone with this year, we are aiming to register teams slightly earlier then usual.

PLEASE ARRIVE BETWEEN 9.50AM & 10.20AM.

Please DO NOT drive to the Museum as you will be refused entry by the Support Team and we do not wish to clog up Museum Street with traffic.

If you live in the North of the Town, please walk to the Museum.

If you live Outside or in the South of the Town, please get dropped at the Common Car Park.

Parking is available at either the Common (CB10 1LS) or Swan Meadow Car Park (CB10 1DA).  You can the walk to the Museum from there (5-10 minutes depending which car park you use)

Do NOT use the Rose & Crown Car Park opposite the Common Car Park, as you could suffer terrible fines for even just entering the car park.

Support Team – You have been asked to arrive at 9.15am, but I will be on site from 9am if you wish to come earlier.

Important Notices

In the event of rain on the weekend, could EVERYONE please ensure……

  • You have extra lightweight clothing in your bag to put on when you sleep at night.
  • Everyone goes to sleep with DRY feet.
  • Teams will be given 2 Emergency Blankets at the start. Un-used ones can be given back at the end.  Only use these in an Emergency however.  Once they are open, we do not want them back.
  • Wrap all kit inside your main bag in plastic bags.  Maybe even line your main bag as well.
  • Have enough pairs of thick socks (walking socks if possible) to keep changing if necessary
  • Re-wax / Waterproof your Boots
  • Take enough nibbles to keep you going / lift spirits every now and then!
  • On your prep nights, Adults and PL’s of Patrols have hopefully thought about shelter options and maybe taking a small stove.  Even a very small hot drink could make all the difference in wet conditions.
  • Find that brave courage and determination within yourself and take it with you.  Keep team morale high and keep checking on each other throughout the event. That is key.

If we deem any person to not have the right kit this with them this weekend, we reserve the right for their own safety, to stop them from starting the event.

Jailbreak 2026 End Point.

Jailbreak 2026 will end on 27th September at Audley End House & Gardens.

Please ONLY park in the Top Car Park (CB11 4UH) — What three words (///havens.differ.sanded).

The entrance is opposite the County High School / Saffron Hall. There is 10–15-minute walk down to the House & Gardens from there. The cafe is open, if you fancy a brew.

Unfortunately, filming is taking place at Audley End on these dates, so traffic around the house is restricted.

You CANNOT go through Lion gate (this is where all the walkers will be entering, please don’t drive down there and turn around as it presents a danger to all the walkers trying to get in) or Cambridge gate, marshalls will turn you away.

Entrance to the grounds and the parking, will be free for all Jailbreak Families. There will be scouting volunteers to guide you to where we are meeting.

Parents wishing to see participants as they finish the event, are asked to arrive between 10am and 11am as there is a short walk down to the house. Participants will be finishing in front of the Mansion.

Presentations are expected to begin around 1pm.

If you only intend to pick up participants, they will be dismissed around 1.20pm.

Please feel free to spend the afternoon at the house; it will be partially open still, despite filming.

NOTE: If the weather was to turn bad, then we will not have undercover accommodation, so you will get wet! Parents may have to wait in cars.
